A six-week acting class focused on acting techniques and text analysis necessary to perform Shakespeare for the adult actor. The goal of this course is to help actors become more comfortable with Shakespearean text using tools designed to foster clear storytelling and spontaneity in the text.
We begin with script analysis technique which dives deeply into the meaning of the text, so that actors begin playing from a place of understanding, rather than a vague idea or “gist,” of what they are saying. We then play with the text utilizing tools which aim to increase understanding and comfort with the text, thereby improving the actor’s ability to convey the story well.
Classes will be taught by local actors Cinda Goeken and G.J. (Greg) Thompson. Additional guest artists may join us from time to time to share their insights into approaching Shakespeare in performance.
Students have the opportunity to select, prepare, memorize and present at least one monologue and one short scene during the course. The six-week class will culminate in a showcase performance at the “Inaugural William Shakespeare’s Birthday Bash” in April held at Studio Grand Central in St. Petersburg.
